hot AI summer, part 3: filamento

Way back in ’23, I was trying to scrounge up some freelance design projects and pitched several architectural and decorative lighting manufacturers. It turned out to be a hot AI summer, where I generated ideas for over a dozen product lines built on hundreds and hundreds of renderings made in Midjourney. Unfortunately, none of those product ideas came to fruition before I found my current fulltime role at Megapixel. Design concepts don’t stay fresh forever and as these concepts are already approaching a year old, I figure I should unveil a few of the tastier leftovers! Mmmm! Yummy design inspiration!

I pitched a decorative lighting company a line of art nouveau inspired pendants and sconces that use flexible LED filaments, blackened- and polished-copper accents and lots of refractive glass. I believe that AI image generation will drive a revival of rich, decorative arts in interior design. I also believe that unflinching white’n’bright Scandinavian design has been pushed too far in hospitality, and that people crave “sumptuous darkness” in their evenings out. Enjoy!
