can you keep up with a.i.?

I’ve recently seen various designers sharing some “A.I. image per day” posts.
That’s so cute! Like a “sketch a day” when I studied architecture in college or even a “dictionary word a day” when I was in elementary school!

But I’m a professional innovation leader. How powerful is A.I. for product development? Let me share my personal experience:

I left a previous role in February and I’m searching for a new senior-level role leading innovation in design, product management or marketing. Or design projects to fill the gap. I’m using A.I. image generation aggressively to aid my search and pitch for new work.

In the past 4 months, I’ve generated a whopping 1,500+ concept images in producing 45+ product or project concept decks. I’ve produced stunning ideas ranging across sustainable lighting systems to immersive digital experiences to traditional decorative fixture designs.

Do the math: I’ve averaged a DOZEN images PER DAY, every single day for 120+ DAYS.

A.I. image generation has become so engrained in my workflow, it has become my regular practice to produce tailored concept decks for nearly any conversation I have with potential clients. I’ll produce 50 images in minutes and use only the top 5 to help guide a conversation. If the conversation goes nowhere, I’ll repurpose the images on social media as marketing content.

It is difficult to comprehend both the volume and the quality of output I’m able to produce with A.I.

For example, I’m working with an industry partner to try to win design commissions with decorative manufacturers. I didn’t just produce a handful of cute images for him to pitch — I produced an entire CONCEPT CATALOGUE: Ideas for over a dozen novel product lines, and for each product line I produced 10-20 pages filled with vivid imagery of variations and creative alternatives, all set in gorgeous architectural backdrops. And even though I already have more ideas than for which I could ever find clients, I continue to produce new line concepts weekly – just to remain top of mind.

What I’m realizing is that my abilities as a designer and innovation project leader were severely limited by the speed at which I could produce and share visualizations. Taking off that governor feels incredibly liberating.

The danger is that most management teams are ill equipped to handle the forthcoming deluge of ideas. So many companies are already very weak in curating and prioritizing ideas, plus ridiculously slow in bringing them to market. They will be trounced by competitors that can generate mountains of great ideas, derisk those ideas fast and bring them to market for low development costs.

Need help keeping up? In understanding how A.I., coupled with strong innovation process management, will give your organization an incredible advantage in launching market-leading products?
