perception

Perception is a NYC-based design firm that creates the amazing sci-fi interfaces used in various movies – most notably the Marvel franchises – along with interfaces for actual real life tech companies. Core77 has a nice post covering some of their work.

I love how their interface concepts incorporate 3D spatiality in such novel ways. They routinely blur the lines between the real world and virtual world, using AR/XR concepts to overlay and reveal data from/about/into our environments.

There is a clear, pressing opportunity to study and understand how architectural spaces will become portals to the virtual world. Across a host of markets – retail, hospitality, healthcare, etc. – brands need to fuse the digital experience with location-based experience.

I love Perception’s website descriptor:

PERCEPTION IS A CUTTING EDGE DESIGN LAB PIONEERING THE VISIONARY PROCESS OF SCIENCE FICTION THINKING TO ARCHITECT THE FUTURE. WE DIVIDE OUR TIME EQUALLY BETWEEN THE PARALLEL WORLDS OF SCIENCE-FICTION—WORKING WITH TRAILBLAZING FILMMAKERS, AND SCIENCE-FACT—COLLABORATING WITH THE WORLD’S MOST INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY BRANDS.

Lots of terrific design inspiration here in Perception’s stunning show reels…
