A great article at The Verge about ewaste recycling. Stunning is the complexity and thin margins associated with recycling electronic waste. How is the lighting industry going to respond? What is the end of life scenarios for our products?
I guess since the lighting industry is not acting uniformly and basically following the chaos of the global electronics industry, our products all wind up in the shredder/smelting plant scenario. Imagine the energy consumed through these recycling processes and the outright waste of useful capacity from light sources or fixtures that weren’t at their EOL yet.
The concepts of the circular economy are all too important to our collective self preservation to be ignored…especially at these massive industrial scales.
