CeramTec is a German company that makes ceramic-based moldings, extrusions and sheet products. Ceramics have two great characteristics: Electrical isolation and thermal conductivity. Circuit traces can be silk-screened right onto the ceramic parts and electrical components like LEDs can be soldered directly, reducing differential thermal expansion issues and increasing efficiency.
But I also simply love the aesthetics of this material: Pure white ceramic parts with silver or copper electrical traces look like some sort of advanced alien technology that crash landed here on earth.
Ceramic components are already extensively used for LED substrates; I think you will be seeing some very unique LED module designs in the near future using ceramic housings.
Sorry for the out-of-focus pictures from their booth; their parts were below a glass cover and my camera didn’t want to focus properly.
