Here’s a nice video from Adam Savage’s Tested YouTube channel on making your own DIY faux-neon LED sign.

For any of you old enough to have specified neon or cold cathode on a commercial project, the incredible ease of using flexible silicone-encapsulated LED-strips to achieve the faux-neon effect is really fun to watch. While I greatly appreciate the old-school craft of hand-blown glass neon tubes, it certainly “democratizes” the art of neon-style signage!

And if you need some, ummm, shall we say “interesting” inspiration for your neon craft projects, just check out ‘Seven Figures’ by Bruce Nauman, 1985, which I saw last weekend on display in Amsterdam’s Stedelijk Museum. Sort of NSFW, so look it up yourself!!
