Innovative Lighting is a startup based in a small town in Iowa that is developing a PoE lighting system they are branding Genisys (Iowa of all places…where my dad goes for antique John Deere meet ups!). I’m impressed by their progress – they look like they have quite a software package in place plus some hardware engineering going on.
However I don’t get the Intellidrive architecture – why route the power from the switch through this unit? Why not employ a single point of intelligence for the system and let the PoE switches be the scaling capacity for the system?
I’m also interested in Wendell’s comment about the end of life design of their fixture – if I understand correctly, they’ve made the whole troffer of one type of plastic that can simply be recycled (presumably after stripping the LED engine?). Nice to see some circular-economy thinking in practice.
