Most of the key tech innovations in the lighting industry are coming from outside of the lighting industry. And even though most of the “digital” tech is based on open-standards, some of the most lighting-applicable tech is not common. For example, PoE (Power-over-Ethernet) lighting is a great idea, provided you can find high-power PoE switches!
Microsemi produces an interesting line of high-power PoE switches, including a line of switches that output up to 60w per port or 1000w max per switch. They even have launched an outdoor rated PoE switch.
I wonder what someone could do with an outdoor rated PoE switch?
