Joshua Jameson reached out to me with his “Lovlit” Kickstarter project, an Internet connected LED-based “candle” that responds to touch to remotely illuminate paired candles.
Joshua reached out to me because of the LumiTouch project that me and a team of graduate students developed in 2000 while attending a design course in the Tangible Bits group at MIT’s Media Lab. It resulted in a patent, “Socializing Remote Communications“, in 2003.
It is fantastic to see Joshua and the Lovlit team launch into this space. Especially 15 years later, when we are now drowning in constant alerts and activity feeds, the use of light as a low-attention, “ambient” way to communicate information, presence, feelings, emotions, etc. is still an unexplored opportunity.
Good luck Lovelit!
