At the BMW Welt center in Munich, they had a cut-away assembly of an LED headlamp on display.  I only had my iPhone with me, and it was on a rotating display in a plexiglas case, but hopefully the pictures convey the amazing complexity of the assembly.  A huge multi-part heatsink with fan cooling, a primary beam with split up/down “scallop” reflector configuration to reduce source glare, and a complex secondary beam using a very large, thick and optically complicated molded lens.
