Wonder what’s going to happen to your LED fixtures in about 10 years?  Check out this collection of YouTube videos from a company called Sims Recycling Solutions, which shows how they manually tear down products, shred the components and automatically sort bulk plastics and metals, tediously and manually extract precious components such as ICs, and smelt down the remaining pieces to recover precious metals.

I applaud the apparent professionalism and innovation of this company, but I have to ask:  Isn’t there a better way to design our lighting systems to make better use of the raw materials?
