International Resistive Corporation (IRC) has an interesting product called “Anotherm“, which is an electrically isolated but thermally conductive anodized coating for aluminum.  This allows electrical traces to be bonded directly to aluminum, decreasing the thermal barrier between LEDs and the aluminum heatsink.
